During this time tjb’s practice was framed as an artist-philosopher and utilised the mediums of performance art, body art, endurance (durational or task-based), sonic art and noise.
Her philosophical focus was grounded through her PhD and a research interest upon identity, being and multiples of self. This would lead to close study of phenomenology that became the bedrock of their ongoing practice-as-research.
As the title of this period suggests, it also marked one of the most difficult periods for her mental health as she struggled with her own being and identity through extended periods of anguish, repression and isolation.
Her directorial practice would continue throughout this period making shows that ranged across classic and contemporary texts as well as original devised post-modern and presentational theatre productions and a trilogy of original Butoh shows choreographed by tjb. However, it was from 2012 that tjb’s producing and curatorial skills would flourish in her capacity as artistic director of the festival of international performance art, Tempting Failure. Which, under her leadership would support 800+ artists over the years to explore notions of risk and failure.
